To get around town, you can always find taxis and "eco-taxis" (inexpensive and plentiful), or be a little adventurous and hop a pulmonía. These four-person open-air taxis are a combination carriage/golf cart (literally meaning "pneumania"). Each vehicle carries its own unique name which might give you a clue about the driver’s roadside manners.

Mazatlán also has public bus service which runs from the tourists area all the way to downtown (Centro) and old Mazatlán. These large city buses run from 7am to 11pm. You’ll find the drive along the oceanside boulevard wonderfully scenic.

Mopeds are popular and can be rented at several locations.

Ocean-equipped automobile ferries (transbordadores in Spanish) operate between Mexico’ mainland cities of Guaymas, Topolobampo and Mazatlán and the .

Baja peninsula cities of la Paz and Santa Rosalia. These lines cater mostly to cargo trucks, but also accommodate visitors, either with or without vehicles.

The la Paz/Mazatlán trip is hours each way (versus a 40-minute flight). For schedule and rate information in Mazatlán: (69) 817020. Currently service is daily except Thursdays, departing Mazatlán at 3pm, arriving la Paz at 8am. Tickets can be purchased from Turismo coral, tel.(69) 813290, Marza tours, tel.(69) 160896 and other Mazatlán travel agencies. See Section III-11 for ferry departure points, rates and schedules.
